WHY VISIT IT
The museum is worth a visit for the ancient structure, for the items it hosts such as the Brunelleschi’s clock or just for the amazing view from the tower. In addition, the union between the historical and the crafty cutler part gives a 360 degrees view over Scarperia’s history and its people.
THE MUSEUM
Palazzo dei Vicari dominates the homonymous square and is considered the monument symbol of Scarperia. It is also the only palace among the Tuscan palaces that reminds so vividly of Florence. Its name derives form the vicars, representatives of the Florentine Republic on the territory, who lived in the palace. Merlons and corbels decorate the façade and give to it a medieval look, which reminds of Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. The pietra forte façade is decorated with numerous glazed terracotta coat of arms, emblems of the Vicars, who ruled the territory one after another.
