Sant’Agata centre for archaeological documentation

WHY VISIT IT
On display archaeological findings of Mugello from prehistoric times to the Middle Ages, worthy of note "the oldest pestle in the world". Outside a prehistoric village with natural-sized huts, furnished with objects of daily life

THE MUSEUM
The Archaeological Documentation Centre of Sant’Agata offers visitors a fascinating journey through time, guided by a large chronological timeline running along the walls of its rooms. With striking visual impact, it highlights just how brief recorded history is when compared to the vast span of prehistory.
A newly designed exhibition hall now hosts the permanent display of the precious finds from the so-called “Prince’s” burial, discovered in 2012 in the municipality of Scarperia e San Piero thanks to a report by the Scarperia Archaeological Group. Dating back some 3,000 years, these artefacts bear witness to the presence of an Etruscan rural aristocracy, linked to the strategic importance of the Sant’Agata area as a crossroads in the past—as it continues to be today.
